Two-time Oscar winner Janusz Kamiński will collect an award in Poland next month. The ceremony is set for Nov. 7 at the ToruńCamerimage Film Festival. Kamiński, 75, has shot 20 films with director Steven Spielberg, including their latest collaboration, Disclosure Day. He has drawn seven Academy Award nominations for Best Cinematography, six of them from Spielberg projects.

The recognition, called the THR Visionary in Cinematography Award, was created to mark work in the field. Kamiński's credits include Schindler's List, released in 1994, and Saving Private Ryan, released in 1998. Both films took the Oscar for Best Cinematography. The American Society of Cinematographers later placed both on its list of the best-photographed films of the 20th century.

Kamiński's other work covers a wide range. Minority Report, from 2002, uses cold blues and dark shadows to build its version of Washington. Munich, from 2005, draws on the look of 1970s thrillers and news footage. In The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, released in 2007 and directed by Julian Schnabel, he narrowed the camera's point of view and shifted focus in small increments to reflect a character's locked-in syndrome.

Kamiński left Poland as a political refugee and arrived in the United States speaking no English. He studied at Columbia College in Chicago, then at the American Film Institute. Early jobs included gaffering on low-budget Roger Corman productions and television movies. His work on the 1991 TV movie Wildflower, directed by Diane Keaton, led Spielberg to hire him for The Class of 61, then for Schindler's List.

He has also worked with Judd Apatow on Funny People and with Cameron Crowe on Jerry Maguire. The 34th ToruńCamerimage runs Nov. 7-14.
