Cultured Books Literacy Foundation, a nonprofit that works to strengthen reading culture in South St. Petersburg, has scheduled its fifth annual St. Pete Reads! Lit Fest for Saturday, Nov. 7.
The event runs 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Legacy Gardens outside the Woodson African American Museum of Florida at 2240 9th Ave S in St. Petersburg. Admission is free, and organizers say registration is encouraged.
Programming includes book swaps, workshops, storytelling, and music from the Al Downing Jazz Association and Mary Corbett, a violinist with the Florida Orchestra. The children's author lineup features Layesha Walton's "Galaxy Girl," Children's Literature Legacy Award winner Carole Boston Weatherford's "Black Hands: Builders of Our Nation," and work by award-winning illustrator Gregory Christie, including "Jazz Baby."
Lorielle J. Hollaway, the foundation's founder, wrote on the foundation's website: "I don't believe reading should feel like something we have to do. It should be something we discover, enjoy, and share."
The event is open to families and is the fifth iteration of the festival, which the foundation organizes each year.
