Robert Hughson has been trapped in his home for two days.
The water reached the dirt line in front of his house on Tuesday morning. It flooded again on Wednesday. He lives in a neighborhood near the intersection of I-75 and I-595 in Davie.
"We woke up yesterday to go to work, and we couldn't; water was all the way up to, as you can see, where the dirt is," Hughson said. He said he did not dare drive his car through the water because it could ruin the vehicle. The water was more than a foot deep in some spots. He said five cars were floating nearby when he walked outside.
Many neighbors parked their vehicles on high ground outside their subdivision. "If they bring their car into the driveway, they're going to be stuck. If they park their car and just walk home, and if they need to leave, they can just walk back to their car, and it's safe," Hughson said.
Doyle Stevenson, a neighbor, said many drivers found flooded roads in the dikes between Griffin and Stirling in Southwest Ranches. "These little cars, they shouldn't be going through it. You got one lady stuck in the ditch with water up to her door," Stevenson said. Another driver said she made a U-turn at a sign that said no U-turns because the water was too deep.
Hughson said he is optimistic the river formed in front of his house will go away. The flooding is expected to continue as residents wait for the water to recede.
