President Donald Trump arrives in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Friday for the final stop of his midterm campaign tour.
His primary target is Byron Donalds, the Republican candidate for governor. Donalds is challenging David Jolly, a former Republican congressman who switched to the Democratic Party. While Donalds holds a lead in polling, analysts describe the contest as competitive.
The current dynamics differ from the 2022 cycle, when incumbent Ron DeSantis won reelection by a margin of nearly 20 points. DeSantis is not running this year.
Trump also plans to endorse congressional Republicans in the region. Senator Ashley Moody seeks a two-year term in a special election. She faces state representative Angie Nixon. DeSantis appointed Moody to the Senate in 2025 after Marco Rubio departed for the State Department.
Representative Randy Fine represents the Daytona Beach area in the House. He took office in April 2025 following a special election. He replaced Mike Waltz, who is now the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Florida voluntarily redrew its congressional maps before the midterms. Republicans currently hold 20 of the state's 28 House seats. The new boundaries may increase that total.
