Musk Injects $76 Million Into America PAC Ahead of Midterms
The tech billionaire’s latest infusion targets the Texas Senate race, cementing his status as the cycle’s most significant individual donor.

Elon Musk has transferred more than $76 million to his personal political committee, America PAC, in the first two weeks of October, a move designed to bolster Republican candidates during the final phase of the midterm elections. This substantial injection was revealed in a pre-election report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday evening, highlighting the intensified financial firepower Musk is deploying as the polls open.
The committee utilized nearly $43 million of these funds immediately upon receipt. Despite this rapid expenditure, America PAC entered the final stretch of the campaign with a cash reserve of approximately $47 million. This liquidity allows the group to maintain aggressive advertising campaigns and strategic operations in key battleground states without immediate fiscal constraints.
The Texas Senate contest absorbed the largest portion of the new spending, totaling $15.2 million. This figure represents a doubling of the amount the PAC invested in that specific race during the entire summer. Of this total, $12.4 million was directed toward negative advertising against Democratic nominee James Talarico, while $2.8 million was spent promoting his Republican opponent, Ken Paxton.
Subsequent daily filings indicate that the PAC has continued its offensive against Talarico, adding another $9.1 million to the tally. Consequently, total spending against the Democratic candidate has reached nearly $28 million, accounting for roughly 40 percent of all funds America PAC has deployed to support or oppose candidates this cycle. The committee also marked a shift in its media strategy, allocating $11.4 million to digital advertisements in the same period, a figure nearly equal to its combined spend on mail and text messaging.
According to an analysis of Federal Election Commission records, Musk has contributed over $445 million to Republican political entities in this election cycle. This makes him the largest known individual donor in the midterms. Since July alone, more than $165 million of that total has flowed specifically into America PAC. The committee did not respond to requests for comment regarding the new filings.
Musk, who maintains significant corporate interests in Texas through Tesla and SpaceX, has also actively engaged in the race via social media. On Wednesday, he posted on X that there is "something deeply wrong" with Talarico, later labeling him a "creep." He further claimed, without providing evidence, that Talarico would vote to "take away your kids and transition them." Earlier in the month, Musk amplified an unverified claim that Talarico had received treatment at a mental health facility, a narrative the Democrat disputed by noting that a "trillionaire" buying a Senate seat is also problematic.
Despite the heavy spending, the Texas race remains statistically competitive. An Emerson College poll of 1,000 likely voters, conducted from October 17 to 19, showed Talarico leading by two points at 48 percent, compared to Paxton’s 46 percent. This margin falls within the poll’s three-point error range, indicating a toss-up scenario.
The financial stakes for Musk extend beyond a single state. Democratic leaders in the House have indicated that if their party secures control, committee chairs will investigate Musk’s role in the Department of Government Efficiency and his companies’ federal contracts. California Representative Zoe Lofgren described the number of potential conflicts of interest as "astounding." Furthermore, a group of Silicon Valley Democrats, including Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna, sent a letter to the White House on Friday demanding scrutiny of federal funding for SpaceX’s Starshield service in Ukraine, warning that the next Congress will closely examine these financial ties.
