EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarína Mathernová called on Western news organizations to maintain full coverage of the conflict in Ukraine. She issued the warning on Facebook, where she endorsed an earlier appeal by leading Ukrainian journalists. Mathernová argued that international outlets must not look away from the escalating violence.
The ambassador noted that war fatigue is growing just as Russia intensifies its offensive. She stated that Russia is attacking Ukrainian civilians and energy infrastructure at unprecedented levels ahead of winter. Mathernová said the democratic world needs to pay closer attention now. She specifically urged for tougher sanctions and unwavering support for Ukraine.
In the past 24 hours, Russia launched more than 20 attacks on Ukraine's energy sector. These strikes targeted facilities in 10 oblasts. According to Mathernová, the Russian military used missiles, guided aerial bombs, and jet-powered drones for these operations.
Mathernová described war fatigue as a luxury Ukraine cannot afford. She pointed to Ukrainian children facing cold weather and civilians dying to defend European values. Her comments follow recent statements from other European leaders on the conflict.
Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, expressed solidarity with Ukraine after a Russian bomb struck a school in Komyshuvakha on November 2. That site in Zaporizhzhia Oblast was used to distribute humanitarian aid. Kaja Kallas, the EU foreign policy chief, also condemned a Russian attack on a railway station in Dnipro. Kallas called for accountability and a Special Tribunal for Russia's aggression.
