Visual effects studio Weta FX has agreed to work with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) to develop an artificial intelligence production hub in Asia. The arrangement aims to integrate Taiwan's technological infrastructure with Weta FX's specialized effects expertise. Both parties will formally announce the details on Nov. 6 during the Taiwan Creative Content Fest in Taipei. The presentation is scheduled for the main stage immediately following the opening ceremony.

The partnership comprises three distinct operational components: joint capital investment, AI research and development, and talent training programs. Specific financial terms and structural details remain under embargo until the public launch. The goal is to connect Taiwanese technologists and creative professionals with global screen production pipelines.

TAICCA chair Sue Wang will join Weta FX CEO Daniel Seah on stage for the unveiling. Also present will be Weta FX chief technology officer Kimball Thurston and VFX supervisor Sheldon Stopsack. The studio previously visited the island in August for the Taoyuan International Film & Technology Forum.

The deal aligns with TAICCA’s mandate to support content creation through new technologies. The agency, established by Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture in 2019, supports projects across film, television, animation, and gaming. It recently launched TTXC Innovations, a platform designed to connect creators, developers, and investors. This new initiative extends that model to focus specifically on AI-driven screen production.

For Weta FX, the move expands its physical presence beyond its core locations. The Wellington-based studio operates outposts in Vancouver and Melbourne. It has accumulated eight Academy Awards for visual effects, 17 Science and Technology Awards, eight BAFTAs, 10 VES Awards, and five Emmys. Recent work includes the 2025 film "Avatar: Fire and Ash."

The studio currently has several high-profile titles in production. These include "The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Doomsday," and "Children of Blood and Bone." The new Taiwan hub is intended to support this growing slate by leveraging local AI capabilities and creative labor.

CEO Daniel Seah, who grew up in Taiwan, described the partnership as a way to plug local talent into worldwide projects. The studio’s involvement represents a strategic shift toward integrating advanced AI tools into its traditional post-production workflow. The formal launch will mark the beginning of this multi-year collaboration.
